Well, when the day finally came yesterday, a lot of that pressure was relieved, because you know what?
I'm not done.
I will be.
Soon.
But there's no reason at all that I should feel less than awesome because it's going to take me a few more days.
52,000 words!
Getting over that 50k hump was a big moment for me, especially because I can feel the end of my story creeping closer and closer.
I think it will probably land somewhere in the ballpark of 60-65k. I know that isn't epically long, but at first look, it seems that it will be about the right length for my girl's story.
I'd also like to thank my friend Jess for telling me about "Blog Me MAYbe" which is really just a blogging initiative that is meant to help people who've struggled with regular posting to find the extra motivation to communicate with their readers consistently.
I like having this blog be pretty no-pressure, because I've been able to focus so much on just getting my first draft done, but the month of May will hold the end of that writing dump, and I'd really like to have a game plan for posting around here.
So, I'm going to shoot for 2 posts minimum per calendar week. That doesn't mean it will always be the same days, but hopefully it will get me started.

Good job! I am so impressed. You are so inspiring. If I wasn't at work, I'd stop everything and write RIGHT NOW. :) I know you will be done in no time!
ReplyDeleteYay! I love that we're going to finish around the same time! I'm at ~111 out of ~115K. (Yikes!) Now aren't you glad you write YA instead of literary horror? =)~
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. I was trying to reach 70,000 the other day but it was going so slow. It's hard to get motivated sometimes :) well done
ReplyDeleteHi! I'm a new follower who also writes contemporary YA. :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on getting over 50K words! That's really exciting.
BTW, love your blog design!
I read some of your blog posts and think you def have a knack for writing/blogging. I am also a writer, unpublished. It is so weird to "say" that! None the less, I write. I have dabbled in the blogosphere (sp?), read several of your entries, and came away feeling a bit inspired by your honesty and dedication to getting published. I, too, am trying my darndest to get a request for my first few chapters.
ReplyDeleteHere's my problem: My books concept and storyline are excellent. I've shaved it down to 99,800 words, but the story isn't over yet. It's going to be three books. The plot is circuitous, complex, diverse, and extemely difficult for me to summerize. And I think my query letter just might stink since I'm not getting the nibbles I hope for. Any suggestions on how to properly summarize a super complicated plot?
